The Wilton Basic Course

I have been taking the Wilton Decorating Basics course in hopes of creating beautiful sweet treats to share with you here at Disney Donna Kay - especially new ideas for my Disney Party Boards.  It's a process, but each week I am learning something new and gaining more confidence.

So far I have completed my second class of 4 and have learned some pretty cool tricks for getting my cakes smoother and getting a crisp top edge on my buttercream cakes.  My stars are pretty great, and my dotting skills are stellar.  Here is my first project from the class:

I know - look out Cake Boss, I'm going to take over the cake decorating industry!! Seriously, I have been having a great time and would definitely recommend it.  Tonight I will have my cupcake class with drop flowers and pom pom flowers.  I have tried and tried to get the swirl drop flowers right to no avail. Hopefully tomorrow will be a different story.

Now, I'm off to be sure I have everything ready for class tonight.

Have a Magical Day!!

  1. that's great! I'd gain 50 pounds in that class... because I'd have to eat all my creations! :) I'm a sucker for good cupcakes, so I can't wait to see what you create!!!

    1. I haven't done bad so far Beth, I am finding that the older I get the less I crave sweets. Believe it or not I can bake this stuff and really not eat any of it. Ten years ago that would have been unheard of.

  2. Oh my gosh- you should start an on-line tutorial! These are skills I would absolutely love to learn. (Maybe you can make your own e-book!!)

  3. I really want to take that class too! As you could tell from my blog, I have the passion to make Disney themed treats, but lack a bit in skills :) I wish we lived close by and I'd take the class with you!!

    1. I have had a good time with it Diane. I will highly recommend the classes on Craftsy, I have learned a lot from them. The free class on fondant is really good for beginners like me. :) http://www.craftsy.com/class/basic-fondant-techniques
