I am so honored to have my friend, Stuart from the WDW Fan Zone share his inspiration today for Mentoring Mondays - Circle of Inspiration.
It’s All Because Of You And Lou
After a five year absence from Walt Disney World my family and I returned to visit the world famous mouse in November of 2006 and that is the trip that caused me to start to explore my passion for Disney World. I started searching the internet beginning with a site I was already familiar with All Ears. I loved the weekly feature called “Anita Answer.” It didn’t take me long to find other Disney fan websites which in turn is how I discovered podcasts like the WDW Today podcast. It was through listening to the WDW Today podcast that I discovered the WDW Radio podcast and its host Lou Mongello who was inspirational to me in keeping the magic alive until my next Walt Disney World vacation.
At this point I had no thought of starting a blog but I now knew there were people out there who understood what I thought and how I felt about Walt Disney World. Then after returning from another Disney World family vacation in August 2008 I felt a huge void that required more than just starting to plan my next Disney vacation.
After spending a few months trying to decide how to keep the magic alive between trips I decided to start my own Disney Geek Dad blog in February 2009. This is something I likely would not have attempted had it not been for twitter. It was twitter that would eventually get me to open the door and announce to the world “I am proud to be a Disney fan!” But, it was also the inspiration I got from listening to Lou Mongello’s award winning WDW Radio podcast. Although I had already met Lou at Disney World, I got to meet and talk to Lou at his Farewell to New Jersey Meet at the Menlo Park Mall. I thought this then and I know this now, that Lou Mongello is a great inspiration to each and every Disney fan he meets. While I have come to find that there are so many great people within the Disney community there is no one greater than Lou Mongello. He is the most genuinely nice person I have ever met. I also can’t think of anyone who gives back more to the Disney community than Lou. He is incredibly charitable and his expertise on Disney is second to none. If everyone had some of Lou in them the world would be a much better place. On Lou’s 2011 WDW Radio Dream Cruise he hung out with everyone not just to make an obligatory appearance but to actually get to know us all. So, if you want to know why Lou is considered the best at what he does, it is because he is the very best person you’ll ever know. Each Wednesday Lou broadcasts the phenomenal Live WDW NewsCast and Chat that will have you believe you are talking to a close friend as if they are right there in your own home.
Being around such wonderful people in the Disney community caused me to change the focus of my blog towards the end of 2009. It went from being about keeping the magic alive to finding ways to help other Disney fans and to return the magic to the very community that opened its arms to me and everyone else who wishes to be a part of it.
As time has gone on having a blog wasn’t enough for me. I needed to do more and in the beginning of 2011 WDW Fan Zone was born to further give back to the community and people who inspire me each and every day.
