Did you know...Mickey's Polo Team January 4, 1936

Walt and Roy Disney loved to play polo, so did many Hollywood actors of that era.  It was the social networking choice of  Hollywood in the 1930's. Walt spent a lot of time playing at the Riviera Club with the likes of Spencer Tracy, Leslie Howard and Darryl Zanuck.  His love of the sport was the inspiration for Mickey's Polo Team, which was released January 4, 1936.

There are a lot of stars from the 30's making an appearance in this cartoon short, from both the animated and live action world of movies.  Gags and horsing around are abundant in Mickey's Polo Team, it's fun to watch - and seeing how many stars you recognize definitely adds to the enjoyment factor! Be sure to watch for the famous spectators in the bleachers.

The "Mickey Mouser's" team is made up of :

  • Mickey Mouse
  • Goofy
  • Donald
  • The Big Bad Wolf
The "Movie Stars" team is made up of:

  • Stan Laurel
  • Oliver Hardy
  • Harpo Marx (riding an ostrich instead of a horse)
  • Charlie Chaplin

If you would like to find you more about Walt's love of  polo (the studio even had a team) and the making of Mickey's Polo Team, Wade Sampson of MousePlanet has a great article, which you can find here.

Have a Magical Day!!
